Beacon Medical Practice are looking for a Practice Nurse to join our dynamic team!

Responsible to: Practice Manager

 

Job Summary
To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to the Doctors and other members of the Primary Healthcare Team.   The duties will include all tasks normally undertaken by an experienced RGN and in addition, any roles agreed between the Nurse and Doctors as appropriate, having regard to current training and the changing needs of the Practice.

 

 

Main Duties and Key Tasks
Post-holder responsibilities:

  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by GPs and to support other members of the Nursing Team.
  • To undertake chronic disease management (ie asthma, diabetes, coronary heart disease, hypertension) within Practice protocols, including monitoring progress, response to treatment, reducing unnecessary hospital admissions and promoting the preventative aspects of nursing practice
  • Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group directions.
  • Offer a holistic approach to travel health by providing comprehensive advice to patients prior to travel, including vaccinations and medicines, safe sex, food hygiene, sun protection.
  • Provide health promotions programmes by providing a holistic assessment and lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise.
  • Assess problems presented opportunistically by patients, dealing with minor illness, offer appropriate advice with referral to Senior Nursing colleagues and General Practitioners as appropriate.
  • Ensure accurate notes all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients’ notes on the clinical computer system as appropriate, according to NMC guidelines.
  • Ensure awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including systems of referral.
  • Able to recognise and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines.
  • Able to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
  • Ability to obtain and document informed consent (either verbal or written).
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician.
  • Following appropriate training, undertake the collection, storage and despatch of pathological specimens, including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears etc and ensure the cleanliness of any equipment used.   Perform any investigatory procedures requested by the GPs.
  • An awareness of own limitations and experience.
  • A commitment to ensure all Health and Safety requirements measures/procedures are met and to report any problems to the Operations Manager.
  • Lead on Infection Control
  • Participate in clinical supervision.

  • Courtesy: Paramedic Practitioner need to respect patients and individuals they engage with and handle their affairs with dignity.
  • Team-oriented: Paramedic Practitioner work with different professionals which requires them to be collaborative to work with teams.

The post-holder will:

  • In the course of seeking treatments, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters.   They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately.
  • In the performance of duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to Patients and their Carers, Practice staff and other Healthcare workers.   They may also have access to information relating to the Practice as a business organisation.   All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential.
  • Information relating to Patients, Carers, Colleagues, other Healthcare workers or the business of the Practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Practice Policies and Procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.

  • Use personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines.
  • Identify any risks involved in work activities and undertake such activities in a way that manages those risks.
  • Follow appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way, free from hazards, report any potential risks identified.
  • Make effective use of training to update knowledge and skills.

Variation to Duties
You may be required to undertake other duties which may reasonably be asked of you and which are commensurate with your role within the Practice.
