Preparing for the new Cervical Screening Management System (CSMS)

The IT system that supports the call and recall function for the NHS Cervical Screening Programme in England is changing. NHS England will launch the new NHS Cervical Screening Management System (CSMS) by the end of the financial year 2023/2024, and it will replace the current NHAIS based system which is accessed through Open Exeter.

A system letter, issued on 18 September 2023, highlights the actions that need to be delivered by 30 September 2023 to ensure an effective and timely transition to CSMS in quarter 4 of the financial year 2023/24. Heads of Public Health are encouraged to follow up with their providers to support the delivery of CSMS.

Once the new CSMS goes live, the old Open Exeter system will not be accessible, so it is important that local IT teams, Registration Authorities and system users take steps now to prepare for the switchover.

To support in the run up to go live, there will be regular updates including what training and support will be available. This will include updates through the Heads of Public Health fortnightly meetings and weekly bulletin.

Further details about the new CSMS can also be found here.

For any questions on the new CSMS please contact the new CSMS implementation team at screening.implementation@nhs.net, or england.phadmin@nhs.net.
