GP Pension scheme members – End of year pensions process
Since the launch of the GP Pensions services in PCSE Online, NHS Pensions has provided PCSE with annual Type 1 and Type 2 forms and PCSE has incorporated the forms into PCSE Online, allowing GPs and their representatives to complete them directly in the online system. Unfortunately, this has not been possible this year.
Largely due to substantial changes to the 2023/24 Type 1 and Type 2 forms, that require significant system development, it has not been possible to incorporate this year’s forms into PCSE Online. To meet the 28 February 2025 deadline, GP Pension Scheme Members and their representatives are advised to submit their 2023/24 Type 1 and Type 2 forms via PCSE Contact Us. PCSE has provided guidance below.
Any Type 1 and Type 2 forms from previous years, that you have not completed, can be submitted using PCSE Online as normal.
NHS Pensions, NHS England and PCSE are working together on a plan for the 2024/25 forms to ensure they will be available on PCSE Online in good time for the 2026 submission deadline.
Guidance from PCSE for submitting 2023/24 pensions forms
We can confirm that NHS Pensions has now published the following pensions forms and the associated guidance:
- 2023/24 Type 1 GP (and non-GP) Providers Annual Certificate of Pensionable Profits
- 2023/24 Type 2 Medical Practitioner Self-Assessment of Tiered Contributions
The relevant form(s) must be completed by GP Pension Scheme Members who have undertaken pensionable work, between 01 April 2023 and 31 March 2024, and should be submitted to PCSE from 9 December 2024 and no later than 28 February 2025.
To meet the 28 February 2025 deadline, GP Pension Scheme Members and their representatives are advised to submit their 2023/24 Type 1 and Type 2 forms following the steps below:
1) Download the appropriate 2023/24 form and guidance from the NHS Pensions website: NHS Pensions Member Hub
2) Complete the form, following the NHS Pensions guidance
3) Submit the form on the PCSE Website: PCSE Contact Us by 28 Feb 2025
4) You will receive a case reference when PCSE has received your form
5) PCSE will contact you when your form(s) has been successfully reconciled, or let you know if we need further information
PCSE will aim to process all complete and accurate Pension forms, received by the 28 February deadline, in time for the June cut-off for NHS Pensions to update your record. You could be contacted at any time up to this date to advise that your form has been successfully reconciled, or to request additional information.
